Orem is the fifth largest city in Utah and is known as “Family City USA” due to nearly 85% of its households being married couples and half of its residents being under 25 years of age.
Education:
Orem is home to Utah Valley University — the fastest-growing public university in Utah. This university is one of several universities throughout Utah that is part of a concurrent enrollment “bridge” program that streamlines the credit transfer product of advanced high school classes to public universities.
Besides this, Orem resides in the Alpine School District and is home to 3 high schools, 3 junior high schools, and 14 elementary schools, many of which are known for their excellent programs in science or the arts, as well as amazing faculty.
Recreation:
Orem has two prominent theaters: Hale Center Theater and the SCERA Center for the Arts, each putting on various plays throughout the year. Orem also has a senior center, a library, and 20 parks, including a splash pad and an outdoor pool.
The SCERA, or Sharon Cultural Educational Recreational Association, actually has many contributions toward community recreation, including the SCERA Center for the Arts: an indoor theater that shows the latest movies, and houses live community performances in concerts and musicals, the SCERA Shell: a large outdoor theater with almost nonstop musicals, concerts, and movies, as well as an annual “Dancing Under the Stars” performance, and lastly, the SCERA Pool: a water park with splash pads, a shallow pool, and lazy river for children, as well as huge water slides, a large swimming pool, and a diving board for adults.
The Orem Public Library also has frequent community events, such as summer reading challenges, through which students can read books for prizes during the summer, D&D Clubs for teens and adults, a maker space where people can explore their creativity, and even their own theater which houses child-friendly puppet shows, animal exhibitions, and more.
