Should you wait for Interest Rates to drop?
If you’re waiting for interest rates to come down before buying a home, it may be worth looking at the situation from a different perspective.
As Jeff explains in this conversation with Tracy and Greg, the idea of waiting for lower rates sounds appealing—but when rates drop, more buyers typically enter the market. More buyers competing for homes can mean more competition and rising home prices.
When rates are higher, homes may sit on the market longer and there may be less competition from other buyers. That can create an opportunity to negotiate and potentially purchase a home before the market gets crowded.
And if rates eventually come down? You can refinance. Instead of waiting for the perfect rate, you could purchase when there is less competition and potentially benefit from the home’s appreciation over time. Then, if rates become more favorable, refinancing may allow you to take advantage of the lower rate.
The bottom line: Don’t just focus on the interest rate—look at the entire opportunity.
